we are the lantern rouge

We are the Lantern Rouge. We are predominately white CIS gender people. We have allowed our privileged and problematic non-racist views to further the oppression of those in our community at large, and those who desire to be part of the cycling community.

We will listen, learn and strive to be anti-racist and anti-oppressive. We will work to seek out injustice in our community and find the tools to fight it head on, in an effort to amplify the voices of those who’ve historically been silenced.

As a team we've donated to the Black Youth Helpline, Black Legal Action Centre and Indspire. If you have the means we encourage you to help organizations that support marginalized people in your community, too.

Indspire is a national Indigenous registered charity that invests in the education of Indigenous people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada, more info here - www.indspire.ca

Black Legal Action Centre is a non-profit community legal clinic that provides free legal services for low or no income Black residents of Ontario, more info here - www.blacklegalactioncentre.ca

Black Youth Helpline serves all youth and specifically responds to the need for a Black youth specific service, positioned and resourced to promote access to professional, culturally appropriate support for youth, families and schools, more info here - www.blackyouth.ca

We’ve also been brainstorming plans of action, and have heard some great ideas. From video workshops, to bike rodeos, we want to participate in efforts that we hope move the needle in the right direction – stay tuned.
